About Berks County
Berks County is an urban area with a population of 415,271 persons. It is situated in southeastern Pennsylvania. The county seat, the city of Reading, is 56 miles northwest of Philadelphia and is the heart of the Delaware Valley region. Furthermore, this area is one of the leading industrial and trade complexes in the nation. Schuylkill County borders the County on the north, on the west by Lebanon and Lancaster Counties, on the east by Lehigh County, and on the south by Chester and Montgomery Counties. Finally, despite its closeness to the Philadelphia metropolitan area, it is considered part of Pennsylvania’s Dutch Country.
The Bucks County Intermediate Unit offers educators and administrators a wealth of professional development experiences. First of all, they offer the latest classroom technology tools and continuing professional education courses. These tools help equip young people with everything they need to succeed. In addition, the BCIU offers classes, workshops, and special services to the 18 public school districts within the county. Furthermore, the county is home to 5 colleges and universities including Albright College, Alvernia University, Kutztown University, Penn State Berks Campus, and Reading Area Community College.

Dining options are endless in Berks County. Situated in a former indoor Market, turned brewery, now a funky brick-walled, art filled Contemporary Mediterranean restaurant, Judy’s has been named one of Reading’s best restaurants. Locals also love Dan’s at Green Hills due to their fine American-French Cuisine. You may choose to sip on a craft cocktail in a sun-flooded pub at Stokesay Castle, a fortress inspired by a 13th century castle in England of the same name. Reading, Pennsylvania, is a major destination for events from festivals and parades to professional sports, cinema and theater. The county is home to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, a wild bird sanctuary in Albany Township and East Brunswick Township. Depending on the time of year, a person may see hawks, eagles, and falcons passing the lookouts. Berks county also offers an award winning Oktoberfest celebration which serves all of the traditional fare and hosts several bands throughout the festive weekend.
